When using a thin wall thickness, sometimes it is necessary to increase the stiffness of a part. One commonly used method is to add ribs. Some rules have to be observed, however, when adding ribs. The thickness of the ribs must not be too large to avoid shrinkage marks. Make the thickness of the ribs less than the wall thickness. Typical rib thicknesses are between 60 and 80 % of the wall thickness. Care must also be taken when adding multiple ribs. Multiple ribs should be spaced at least 2 times the wall thickness apart. The height of ribs should be kept to a minimum. At most the height should be 3 times the wall thickness. It is better to add more ribs rather than increasing the rib height.
