Fixed awnings are common outside many shops and they do serve a couple of purposes, both protection from sun and snow, as well as being a great place to advertise the shop. Many awnings carry the name of the shop and make the entrances more welcoming. I’m not sure about the numbers but I know that awnings also can contribute to energy savings.
