My mother and father in law bought a house 5 years ago that was in desperate need of a little tlc.  My father in law, being a bit of a handy man, did most of the work himself.  They started with the kitchen since it  was the room in the house that needed the most work.  He ripped up the old cracked flooring and laid some beautiful tiles.  Next they purchased all new appliances that would really add the the face lift that the kitchen was in desperate need of.  The best part about the kitchen though, is the granite countertop that they chose for their kitchen counters.  Its really beautiful and makes such a difference in the entire room!
